Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's energy has been productive and attentive our last few sessions. I am really impressed with his intellect and effort he has placed in his work thus far. Working with him is a real pleasure, I am optimistic that we will finish his couple assignments (the research paper and poem analysis) by this week and before he goes back to school after his spring break."
"I worked with the first student on "The Great Gatsby." He will have to write a timed essay in class on a topic from the book, so we brainstormed ideas for several different prompts. Then, he developed thesis statements for each question. We practiced honing his argumentation skills and supporting his claims by using examples from the book. Then I worked with the second student, who is reading "To Kill A Mockingbird," in English class. Since he is learning to use close reading skills, we went through various passages of the text and rationalized answers to multiple choice questions. Lastly, I helped him edit an essay related to the book."
"This session focused on creating a discussion post which discussed the play The Crucible. The student did an excellent job identifying the areas the teacher's prompt wanted her to discuss, and finding evidence in the play to support the opinions she conveyed in her writing. She is gaining confidence in her own abilities, and rightfully so, as she has improved greatly in her writing skills. During the session, we identified parts of the play which would support her opinions, and she wrote out her response. This week, she will edit this post, and write her answers to a quiz. If she has questions, she will send them to me."
