Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1: Today was an amazing session. We did both an audio comprehension passage and a regular reading passage, and she got 100% of the questions correct. I was so proud of her. During math, we worked on a few new concepts since she has now mastered our older ones (like graphs and measuring tools). Today, we worked on determining numbers from shaded squares and ordering numbers from greatest to least. We will continue with ordering in math next time! I would really like her to continue writing a few sentences about an object and/or person to keep her writing. We will do a picture story next time. Student 2: She did great today as well. We worked on math first, and learned a challenging new concept: double digit multiplication. Several problems on the ISEE exam are multi-step and involve larger numbers, so double digit multiplication saves her from having to add a big number multiple times, and thus lessens her chance of making a mistake. She really seemed to be getting the hang of it. She did a great job reading. We're still working on gathering meanings of vocabulary words with context clues. I was incredibly impressed with the story she wrote! The organization is the toughest part to master, and she really seems to be getting the hang of that. We will now focus on adding details and creating stronger sentences."
"The student had questions about the Mathematics Achievement and Quantitative Reasoning sections of the Lower Level ISEE. The questions were related to ratios, pre-algebra, and geometry. After explaining how to solve the problems, she started learning the theory behind the solutions. We will focus on these areas for the math sections of the ISEE exam. We will also focus on expanding her vocabulary and practice inferences for Reading Comprehension. At our next session, she will be given lists of prefixes, suffixes, roots, and words that frequently appear on the ISEE. She will also be given more practice in ratios, pre-algebra and geometry. The student is a very bright girl. She should be well-prepared for her ISEE exam in January."
"We went over the structure of the test and I gave her a few sample questions to assess her current level."
