Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I specifically covered all questions entailing the usage of the vertex form: y=a(x-h)^2+k. We covered concepts where we had to convert it from y=ax^2+bx+c and vice-versa. I will e-mail her screenshots highlighting how to find vertex, axis of symmetry, and convert between the two formulas right after the session."
"The student is preparing for a test on factoring quadratic expressions and solving quadratic equations thru factoring. We reviewed the rules and the keys for factoring. We went over the review and then did a variety of factoring and solving problems. The session went very well."
"I worked with the student on Trig problems. I helped him with conversion of angle radians to degrees. We also worked on how to express coterminal angles as well as draw them."
"The student and I first worked on all the properties of exponents, including adding exponents, multiplying exponents, negative exponents, etc. I supplied examples of many of the different properties outlined on the Algebra properties sheet. We next discussed polynomials - distinguishing that y squared and y are two different variables that can't be combined. We added 2 and 3 polynomials, and then we multiplied two polynomials using the FOIL method."
"Student 1 completed a unit test today on linear equations. Student 2 was working on a project involving drawing a scale diagram of a room. We made multiple measurements and did the proportions needed to draw in scale."
"The student has another unit test that he is in preparation for in algebra 1. He had two homework assignments that involved solving single variable algebraic expressions and writing algebraic expressions from word problems. He knows the process, but he tries to guess the values for when he has to divide and multiply. Also, he struggles a bit with retaining the terminology necessary to interpret the algebraic word problems. I will be sending him home with some practice to complete in both topics."
