Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered a variety of concepts, from exponential growth to rotations about axes to related rates. Since he has finished learning new material, the rest of the semester will be review and refreshing of concepts. The student does not seem to be struggling with any of the material at the moment. The hardest thing for him at the moment is related rates, but I believe he has a solid grasp of it. He had a good attitude towards the material, as usual. I included various mnemonic devices throughout the session and helped him learn when to apply which equation, which is the main problem he will face from here on out. A big win from this session is that the student is much better at rotations about axes. I created a complicated problem for him and he made no mistakes."
"In our first session, I spent some time becoming more familiar with the student's learning style and the issues that she has been facing in class. Once I better understood her personal preferences, she worked through some of her homework problems so I could assess her current standing on the material. After half of the session, it was clear that she had a solid grasp on all of the materials, which convinced me that she is ready for her upcoming exam."
"Continued our test prep. Took two math practice tests and worked on a few geometry problems from the math review section of his book."
"We talked about characterizing functions based on their first and second derivatives. The student seemed to struggle with the idea of concavity at the beginning of the session, but e got much better as we progressed. He also showed improvement on his understanding of maximum and minimum points."
"We went over problems relating to compound interest and growth rates, which was a continuation from last time. Since the student understood the example given in the beginning of the section well, we went straight for the practice/homework problems until the end of session. Generally, she was able to understand most of the concepts."
"In our first session, we solved a series of practice problems for next week's exam. The student was able to follow the solution of the word problems but struggled a bit at setting the equations to optimize. I gave him some tips to follow and some algebra rules to keep in mind for faster solutions."
