Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on his English research essay. This will be our goal until final submission. Extended deadline will be announced tomorrow in our session."
"We went over two assignments that the student is working on: 1) Research project; 2) Baseball Article. We discussed organization, rhetorical strategy, structure, and language. We also discussed some pre-writing practices and some authors (that mesh with his interests) for him to check out. He is a fast learner, a talented writer, and super easy to work with. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting with him again."
"We began our session with reviewing the revisions to the student's analysis essay. I believe from this session that he is beginning to understand the importance of planning his writing , elaboration, and hooking his audience effectively. Today we focused on another set of essays for summer engineering programs . We began with a brainstorming phase. Today we listed reasons why he would want to study engineering and are using his previous essay to build a new one. We completed the rough draft of this essay and he is going to revise and edit it using the essay analysis tool provided."
"The student and I worked on evaluating his sources for the IA and the Extended Essay. I gave him two more books that he should look into acquiring, one on Bismarck for the IA and one on Tsar Nicholas II for the EE. I think that with these two works, his two papers will reach a good place in terms of source material, and we can move forward with filling out the writing and really hit grammar and continuity next."
"We reviewed a written assignment, focusing on clarifying and simplifying ideas by cutting unneeded and confusing words and phrases as well as checking verb tenses. When the student reads aloud, she is often able to correct herself, but she needs to do this for herself before handing in an assignment."
"We worked again on flipping sentences, this time without a sequence word. The student found it challenging at first, but he understood it eventually. We also used the computer to edit some creative writing."
