Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to work on timing and filling information gaps. I've assigned a few worksheets to help her fill in some math gaps. She did a very good job!"
"In today's session, the student and I debriefed on the ACT that she took several weeks back. I did this to find out what areas she felt confident and what areas she would like to work on. Specifically, she would like to work on the math and science sections of the exam. To begin with, we began working through the material on the math section. She has covered all of the testable material in her coursework in high school. We went over the types of questions she will encounter, as well as the format of the math section (easy to difficult). We also reviewed many concepts from geometry (such as trigonometry and Pythagorean Theorem) to refresh her memory. We worked through several examples as we reviewed these concepts. I began each question by having her guide me through how she believed the problem could be solved, rather than me just telling her how to complete the problems. After several examples, I felt like she had a much stronger grasp on many of the concepts. We will continue to work on these in the coming weeks. We finished the session working through the science section. I assured her that the science section was not actually a test of her scientific knowledge but rather her interpretation and comprehension skills. We worked through two experiments, and she did very well in understanding the problems and answering the questions. For next week, we will continue reinforcing the math concepts covered this week as well as several new concepts. Additionally, I provided her with several resources to review for the English section of the exam (like common grammar questions and review)."
"Initial assessment. Reading section and science section guided practice. Needs work on vocab to improve reading section score. Began vocab building exercises, to continue next session."
