Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed how to incorporate a video clip from a news network into his research paper. We discussed citation methods and resources. We also worked on building up his arguments and his specific evidence. He is a good student and making good progress on his paper."
"In this session we covered two assignments which the student was struggling to complete. The first involved reading given passages, then identifying the subject, purpose, audience, tone, and point of view. She then had to write a paragraph to identify these, and use quotes from the passage. We worked together to find each required part, and she developed her skills through the introduction of tools, such as breaking the passage into manageable sections and identifying key phrases. She worked hard to complete this assignment, and was more than willing to focus for the entire session. The second assignment involved reading posts made by other students in an online forum, and responding those posts with specific prompts from the teacher. Student mostly required clarification as to what the prompts were asking, and once that was made clear, was quickly able to complete the assignment."
"Today we went over an old essay that the student received a 65 on and talked about what his teacher might have been looking for in a 100%. He told me that he felt very confident about the essay we went over last week. Then we moved on to SAT prep, specifically the reading comprehension parts of the critical reading section. We focused on questions about making inferences. He did well with humanities, but had a harder time with literature and history, so we plan to work on that in more depth next time. We also reviewed techniques for reading short and long passages and how to make the most out of very little time for each question."
