Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the problems for the student's upcoming chapter test on conic sections. There are a lot of equations associated with these problems. He made flashcards to memorize these equations which should help dramatically. Once he had the right equation, the rest of the problem was easy for him."
"During the session, I gave the student some practice problems to review exponential and logarithmic functions. He experienced very little trouble. He was able to quickly and accurately solve most of the problems he had been given. He and I need to review more displaced operations. I believe the best way for him to pay for his final will be through repeated practice, and it may be good for him to have someone who sits down next to him and helps them go through the things."
"We went over a little of just about everything for the student's final. We touched on conic sections, word problems, logs, parent functions, inverse functions, exponential growth, and solving exponentials and calculating asymptotes and vertices. She got a B+ with a possible grading error that could boost her up to an A."
"We went over all sorts of trigonometry problems such as angular velocity problems, the unit circle, and more fun things.
I was impressed by her knowledge of the unit circle. She remembered most of it from a previous class. Hopefully with some more studying she will become a master of the unit circle and be able to recall every major radian on the circle."

"Today we prepared for her precalculus test. She is pretty comfortable with most topics. She just had a few questions about transformations and inverse functions and their graphs. We also went over how to do some things on her calculator (use solver, etc.) that could be potentially useful on her exam."
"We covered graphing lines and worked on learning the different equations for a line. Graphing equations and graph terminology is something that she is struggling with, but she showed some improvement by the end of the session. We also discussed solving for x with inequalities. There are some techniques here that need to be memorized, and we went over those in depth."
"Today we covered vectors:
We prepared for her quiz on vectors.
We did word problems involving bearing angle, ground speed, and direction (distinguished between bearing angle and standard angle on a graph)
We also covered component form of vectors (how to solve for the x and ycomponents of any vector, using Pythagorean theorem, and laws of sine/cosine)
We then touched on "dot product" of vectors"

"There was no homework to work on or tests to prepare for, so we reviewed other types of math problems. Topics included, geometry of triangles, simplifying expressions with exponents, and solving systems of equations. We also went over algebraic substitution, linear equations, and equations of perpendicular lines."
"The student and I brushed up the last few concepts he needed help with for his final. I think he has gotten a better grasp since we've been working together and will perform well tomorrow on the test. I look forward to working with him again over the break or in the future."
"We talked about limits in more detail, particularly limits at infinity and determining whether a function was continuous. We did a lot of problems for her homework. She feels comfortable with determining whether a function is continuous and related limits at infinity to horizontal asymptotes."
"The student and I prepared for her precalculus final exam by reviewing her class's review packet. I asked her to rank the problems in study guide so that we could focus on the most difficult problems. We proceeded to review problems that she had questions on and I provided her with tips on how to approach the problems and conceptual knowledge necessary to solve them. She excelled in logarithms and we reviewed problems dealing with domain and range. I gave her some resources for future review."
"The student and I reviewed for his final for precalc. We mostly went over trig functions and identities. He understood most of the mechanics and formulas. We also went over conics and he seems to know how to identify ellipse from circle from hyperbola. I went over how to find aspects of each conic based on its standard form which he recognized after seeing a couple examples. He feels ready to take the final on Thursday."
