Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I covered finding the area of a rectangle using the distributive property. The most difficult part of today's session was writing the problems in distributive property. He was able to multiply the numbers easily and was very confident in solving the problems with my assistance. We completed his homework together. The student had a very positive, upbeat attitude about working on the area problems."
"The student said he needed to review Symmetry for a math test. I administered a quiz on Symmetry. He had to identify how many Lines of Symmetry in each figure, and complete each drawing so that the figure is Symmetric. He scored 74%; so I explained that symmetric figures are figures that can be folded to make two halves that are congruent to each other. This led to a quick lesson on Congruent Figures, when two figures have the same shape and size, they are congruent. The student was very responsive and focused, he took notes and was able to make his corrections."
"We discussed t-testing, working an example involving testing the difference in means of two different, unrelated population (citations in biology articles versus math articles). We discussed problems and how to use the tests."
"The student and I worked on the homework assignment, and then we continued practicing. Now, he knows the 3 types of solutions that are obtained in a system of equations by substitution. I left him 5 problems to work on."
"The student told me she felt pretty good about her test she took last week although there was one question dealing with a graph that she did not understand. I will go over her test with her once she gets it back. I continued to review different algebraic concepts with her including PEMDAS and the distributive property. I made up several types of practice problems and mixed them together. She was able to recognize each type of problem and complete most of them successfully. I also furthered the work on like terms. Finally we practiced multiplication facts. Overall, she is showing much improvement in competency and confidence."
"The student and I worked on multiplication, carrying, borrowing, fractions and shapes. He did a pretty good job today. Toward the end of the session we played his arithmetic game."
