"Tonight we started right away with the Science section working on different strategies that may work for him. We started with Practice Test 4, Passage 2. I told him that I wanted him to read the whole passage then answer the questions. He finished the passage in about 6 minutes and scored 3/5 correct. He had the most trouble reading and connecting information between different graphs and tables. Next I had him complete Passage 5. I asked him to do the same as before; read all information, underline information he believed to be important, and cross out answers before trying to answer each question. He scored 5/7 correct. He had difficulty with looking at all of the information and the rewording of questions and answers. Next, he wanted to work on English because he has been working really hard with his English skills in school lately. Before we started, I told him that the last ACT test that was given had multiple questions that had to do with dashes or semi-colons. We discussed when and when not to use dashes and semi-colons. We also discussed that when looking at commas, that he should make each comma as big of a break as he can to really hear the difference. He really seemed to be getting it with the few examples that we did together. Next session I want to have examples of the different kinds of questions to go over with him, including dashes and semi-colons. He started to complete Practice Test 4 Passage 5."
"We reviewed homework from math and English class 1. Then we worked through class 1 of reading and science. The student seems to have an easy time with the science."
"We focused on Reading, which hasn't been addressed for a bit (as this is her best section), and Math, looking at how to completely eliminate minor errors. Good session."
