Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had some review homework to do, creating problems that his teacher could use on a cumulative test of the material the students worked on all year. He did fine with this task and his knowledge of all the material is very good. I was happy to hear that he was accepted into and will be attending the high school which was his top choice."
"Reviewed material on arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. Examined the equations for determining the value of any given term in a sequence and why the equations work. Explained sigma notation and how to translate it into a sequence. Also previewed upcoming material on infinite geometric series."
"The student just started counting with money, so we went over her class problems. She needed help with a problem on subtracting the dollar amount given from the total cost of the items, which would provide the change expected. I found she did best when drawing the dollars and cents and then subtracting the cost from that."
"We reviewed Chapter 8 for the student's quiz Wednesday. We discussed the limits of infinite series and sequences and finding sums and limits using a variety of tests. These included the nth root test, the ratio test, the limit comparison test, and the direct comparison test."
"In preparation for the student's exam this week, we randomly picked problems involving limits. We solved trig limits, exponential and power limits. We showed how to use L'Hopital's rule to evaluate 0/0 and inf/inf limits. Other strategies involved algebraic manipulation using conjugate multiplication, and using trig identities."
"Today we covered implicit differentiation and solving for derivatives of logarithmic functions. After the main concept was explained to the student she did fine. She and I both agreed getting an A in calculus will need close attention to details."
