Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I studied sections 7.2 and 7.3, matrix algebra. We will meet next Thursday at 3:30 to review for his test that following Monday."
"The student and I finished her last word problems on the Law of Sines. She understands clearly applications for the law of sines but might have problems with complex multi-step word problems. We will continue to work on this in future sessions."
"During this session, we focused on conic sections, including circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolae. We started with a review of ellipses and hyperbolae, which we had talked about during a previous session, then moved on to parabolas. We talked about how to find the focus and directrix of a parabola, and how to move back and forth between graphs and standard form equations. During the session, we also talked about some study strategies for upcoming exams, and started planning for the remaining months of the school year."
"The student and I worked on material from a missed class, which focused on using the projectile motion equations (the umbrella topic was parametric equations). We discussed the relationship between speed, distance and time, and worked on deriving the equations of motion. We then did a number of practice problems involving the equations, manipulating them in different ways, and plotting them."
"We went over many different concepts of pre-calculus during our first session. He had several worksheets and assignments from class, and we worked through the problems he was having the most difficulty with one by one. We started with graphing sinusoidal equations. I explained what each part of the equation meant, and then walked him through graphing it given the information about its vertical shift, amplitude, and phase shift. We then covered the equation of a hyperbola and how it could be used to construct a graph before moving on to problems covering various other topics such as decay, finding the nth roots of a complex number, and De Moivre's theorem. He understood all of the material very well after it was explained to him, and answered questions about intermediate steps very easily. I look forward to my next session with him!"
"Today was our first session and it went very well! We spent a majority of the time reviewing the power function and the exponential function, and determining the proper function given a set of data. We spent the last 30 minutes introducing trigonometry concepts that will start being covered this week at school."
