Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the material we've learned so far, and I gave her another long list of new vocabulary words. She is definitely improving in pronunciation, and I can tell that she has been practicing and reviewing on her own between sessions! She is doing really well. On Thursday, we're going to focus a lot on pronunciation and listening skills."
"I helped Student 1 to understand positive and negative words in Spanish. He was confused, as some of these words look the same. He felt a lot better after the session. With Student 2, we went through some new vocabulary that was given to him at school. I created "real life' scenarios to help him picture the practicality of the vocabulary he's learning now. I left him with some homework to practice direct object pronouns."
"It is becoming a constant pattern to come out of this session and see how much the student is making the effort to learn and engage herself in the material even more, week after week. I look forward to challenging her in any way I can."
"We did the reading of a newspaper talking about a company. The idea was to show the student the use of prepositions and some other meanings of vocabulary that he already knows. He felt that it was challenging and he loved it. He was very good; he is getting more fluent. The strategy was to read a paragraph aloud, then to look for new vocabulary, then read again and talk about the meaning of it."
"The student and I spent the session having a conversation in Spanish, stopping along the way to review tenses and vocabulary. We spent some time on preterite tense and reviewed present conjugation as well. Other verbs covered include ir and estar. He continues to be very motivated and is an enthusiastic learner. He is fun to work with."
"In this session we continued to go over Pliny's letter to Trajan about the Christians. The student mentioned that his teacher talked to him about subjunctive by attraction (roughly when the verb of a clause is subjunctive not because it has a subjunctive meaning but because it is nested in a subjunctive clause). Thus, we made extra efforts to look for instances of subjunctive by attraction in the reading."
