Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on stoichiometry problems. We balanced reactions then solved for the number of moles, of grams, and liters needed or produced. We talked about limiting and excessive reagents."
"Continued reviewing chemical kinetics. We concentrated on the integrated rate law for half lifes for zero, first, and second order reactions."
"Naming Alkanes Worksheet Ionic vs. Covalent bond experiment lab report The student is a great kid! She did not perform as well as she wanted to in last semester in chemistry and geometry, and she seems to have great personal motivation to do better this semester. She doesn't seems to know exactly what that means though, so we'll work on goal-setting as a great means of knowing where she's at and improving her grades! Her mother asked me to focus on chemistry with the student, because she doesn't feel she can help her at all in that area. Some time may be spent on geometry occasionally. She uses her iPad to complete most of her assignments, and as her tutor and I can login and view her progress if I have the app."
"We went over the student's Nature paper that he has been assigned. I helped him understand the main concept, and we went through each figure so he would understand what they were doing. I mentioned ways he could start his PowerPoint presentation, and some methods he should learn more about, so that he would feel comfortable presenting it and answering questions on the material. I asked him to re-read his paper before our next session, along with a review paper I sent him on the material. This will help him understand more about the subject he is learning. He is very concerned with doing an amazing job on this presentation and getting everything right. A win from this session is calming him down and reminding him that I will help him through this course."
"Today we covered cellular respiration, photosynthesis, and fermentation. Using the packet provided by the student's teacher, we carefully went over each process to make sure she understood the steps and products. She feels much more confident in her test tomorrow and I am confident in her knowledge of the material."
"The student and I edited a draft of his paper and then worked on some basic biology concepts, mostly about the chemistry of water, the pH scale, and different types of bonds. He struggles in general with memorization. It seems that a lot of his test taking comes from rote memorization, which does not lead to actual retained knowledge. I will be working to help him actually understand what we are studying."
