"Today we reviewed law of sines, law of cosine, formula for area of triangle involving sine and Hern's formula. The difficulty with today's lesson revolved around identifying when the law of sines provided zero acceptable triangles, 1 triangle and two triangles. The student struggle a lot at the beginning to identify these differences but by the time I left she felt very confident about law of sines. We also reviewed law of cosine and the difference and similarity that it has with law of sines. She has an exam coming up, so we will prepare for it."
"Today, the student and I practiced conversion between the rates for medicines/solutions administered to a patient. We went through several different types of practice problems. We discussed how to correctly interpret word problems and how to identify between what is being given, and what is being asked. He was very determined to learn this information, though he struggled slightly to understand some of the questions. After some time, we were both able to figure out each question and determined that he only needed additional practice in order to learn the concepts. He did very well today (as usual)."
"The student didn't have homework. I brought worksheets on order of operations, input/output tables, patterns and rules, and combining like terms. She did well with input/output tables and patterns and she's great at combining like terms."
"We worked on a review of addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. He had a positive attitude while learning. We used various strategies such as skip counting and using tallies and pictures."
"For this session, the student completed his homework in which he practiced learning his multiplication facts for 8 and 9. In addition to his homework, we practiced multiplication using the area method. He did a great job, especially when challenged to race against time. Great job!"
"We covered the partial sums strategy for multi-digit addition problems. We also got started on reading a longer chapter book, moving on from the simpler books he has been reading. He had some difficulty answering the questions I posed for him as we were reading together to check his understanding of the text, and I encouraged deeper engagement with it. He is supposed to keep reading books, particularly longer and somewhat more difficult books, on his own."
