Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met to finish reviewing for his placement test. I had him take the practice tests for the math. I also showed him the algebra practice tests and the arithmetic practice tests for him to continue studying for the test. He only struggled with one or two of the practice tests, and I think he is ready for his placement test."
"Today, I helped the student study for her exam. Studying for an exam in one tutoring session is difficult, but I think she was able to get an understanding of most of the material. If she continues to study, she should do well."
"The student had some homework problems to complete. Her teacher's online calendar showed a quiz coming up at the end of the week. I observed as she completed her homework problems and helped her as needed. She is working on FOIL and factoring polynomials. She can generally solve after she is told which method to take and she can FOIL pretty well and factor with some help."
"In this session the student and I started using the tools we learned in the previous lesson to solve basic algebraic equations. Towards the end of the session we were even able to begin working on multi-step equations. We also did a quick review on fractions as that knowledge is necessary for more complex mathematics. He continued to make progress and began grasping the concepts. As he reviews over the coming days with the problems I left him he will reinforce and better grasp these comments. That method seemed to work for him regarding the material from our previous session and will be our strategy going forward."
"The student has an upcoming tests on 9.4 9.5 and 9.6. We went over 9.4 and section 9.5 today in detail which covered factoring mono meals and finding the greatest common factor. The student did well today and struggled with the geometry problems. She was encouraged to focus on geometry and details such a positive and negative signs when appropriate."
"This session started with the student. We worked through his homework assignment on integers and expressions, and integers on the number line. He had some trouble with larger fractions, but showed high proficiency in the other work. My session with the student focused on an exponents packet that focused on negative exponents and the multiplication and division of exponents. We were able to carry on some very interesting conversations, covering topics such as The Strain Trilogy, Disney and Dali, and Spanish cinema. All of these topics centered around a Spanish project. He may choose to cover Dali in his work. This was a very strong and entertaining session."
