Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on simplifying expressions with polynomials by factoring. These also included preforming algebraic operations such as finding the least common denominator before adding or subtracting fractions. Also recognizing dividing fractions is the same as multiplying by the reciprocal. This section relied heavily on factor which the student seems to be understanding better each time."
"We reviewed counting principle, permutation, combination, and probability problems for an upcoming test. The student remembered the material well and did great with the problems. We also looked ahead at some statistics topics."
"Tonight the student and I worked on problems involving the differential equation of growth/decay. We covered the basics of understanding the relationships between the word problems and the variables in the equations, as well as how to approach the solutions given key numbers. We continued to discuss what happens when the rate of change is directly/indirectly proportional to different versions of the given values. We looked at problems involving half-life, air pressure in relation to height above sea level, and Newton's Law of Cooling. He understood the concepts very well."
"The student and I began the session by making flashcards for multiplication problems 6,7,8,9, and 12. We then practiced the problems and timed him. Next, we worked on fractions and telling time on an analog clock."
"Today, we worked on additional division and multiplication problems from the math workbook. The student was solving equations much more quickly. At the end of our session, he enthusiastically continued into the next problem without prompting, which was a definite "win" in terms of his typical level of focus and interest in math."
"We covered the process for solving word problems involving adding and subtracting mixed numbers. The student did well with the concepts covered. She is using close reading strategies well to facilitate solving word problems. Her enthusiasm towards the material is evident by her level of improvement. It was a productive session."
