Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test on Tuesday over Equilibrium. We went over Le Chatelier's principle, equilibrium constants and how to calculate them."
"The student continued his work on the ACT practice writing test we've been working on for the last several weeks. He finished a body paragraph and the conclusion. He still has some work to do on self-editing as he goes, but is improving."
"The student and I met from 6:05 to 7:50. He was a little mentally drained and we had covered enough material to be comfortable ending the session 15 minutes early. We went over the sections that he had completed in the first practice test. He did very well on the three science passages assigned and we went over the 3 he had missed from the two reading passages. We also worked on the remaining questions from the English section. He has work assigned between now and the next time we meet, Wednesday."
"The student and I spent one final session talking strategy for the test. Her knowledge has always been more than sufficient for the test. We brushed up on general test taking strategies as well as geometry concepts for angles, areas and volumes. We worked a bit on English concepts such as colons and semicolons and the possessive forms of nouns. She is in great shape to do extremely well tomorrow, and I have no doubt she'll score better than her previous tests."
"We reviewed the topics we covered last meeting (bad debt expense and notes receivable), and we covered accounting for investments. Specifically, we went into detail about the cost method and equity method of accounting for investments."
"-The student received an 87 on his most recent test covering circles and the definitions of key properties. He was pleased with the result and it was a big increase from how he had been performing in the past. I'm very excited that already we have made progress."
"The student and I briefly worked on some of the discussion comments and the final presentation for the History of Photography class (I had reviewed her draft via email over the weekend). We spent the bulk of the time discussing the History of Photography final exam. "
"Assisted student with email communication to her instructor to clarify questions on material which was not found in her course text. We completed a quiz from Unit 2, and reviewed relevant course material on the chemical properties of enzymes, ATP/ADP, Thermodynamics/Energy and Catabolism/Anabolism. We developed a plan for how to proceed with assignments leading up to our next session and discussed what further assignments we'd complete together during our next meeting."
"The student and I went over some math problems on the ACT. She seems to be doing a lot better. She feels more confident about the ACT going in, so that is good. We then spent an hour going through the reading comprehension passages. She did a timed practice reading section, and she did extremely well."
"We talked about what the student found challenging when she took the SAT in November. Based on this, we mainly focused on writing multiple choice and reading sections. We discussed specific grammatical principles (to be expanded on in future sessions) as well as overall test-taking strategies."
"The student and I completed a review for a test covering verb tenses and new vocabulary. There were no new daily or test grades to gauge progress, but he did well during the review with minimal coaching on conjugation."
"Today we read Chapter 12 together. She hasn't had this material yet in class, but I know (after contacting her classroom teacher) that her class would be covering this material. I explained GMO, transgenics, and recombinant DNA, how they are related and how they relate to the material she already knows. We also discussed cloning and stem cells, and the ethical issues that surround all of these issues."
