Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on his homework, which was solving quadratic equations by factoring. He is doing very well on this section. I asked him about his factoring test, which he got a C on. He said that although he knew how to factor trinomials, he had trouble with factoring binomials. We then did several practice problems factoring binomials after which he felt more confident. He is able to do a retake on Tuesday. He has many missing homework assignments, which he will be working through with his teacher on Wednesday. We had 15 minutes at the end of the session, so I pulled out some word problems using systems of equations for review. He did a great job retaining information, and it was a good refresher."
"Today he completed his math homework assignment, which covered the math concepts of interpreting the quotient as the number of groups or the number of objects in each group using units of 2. We reviewed multiplication tables 2-9. We continued our new lesson of recognizing fractions as parts of a whole number and understanding the difference between numerators and denominators. I gave him practice problems to reinforce the concepts we covered."
"The student completed her study guide for her upcoming math test. The material covered properties of exponential, log and ln functions, and expressions. We reviewed the properties (+/x and -/divide) and solved equations of both kinds; Exponential and log. We also practiced graphing these equations and finding the asymptotes."
"We spent today doing mostly review. I set up several problems for the student to complete, starting with foil, then moving forward into solving for variables with square roots and squares, and finally concluding with scientific notation."
"We covered arithmetic and geometric sequences, permutation, combination, binomial expansion, recursive sequences, and summations."
"We covered decomposing fractions. I instructed him to bring 3 things to our next session: 1) the study guide for his next test, 2) his math textbook, and 3) the study guide for every test that he has gotten less than a C on. His grades on his test have been approving."
