"The student has great interest learning Chinese. She has been learning Chinese since January 2009. There is no textbook assigned at present time. After interviewing, I suggested adding supplemental study material and daily listening to enhance the speaking, reading and writing part of the language. Since she is strong in recognizing patterns, it will be good to use more structure patterns to build her skill and improve her performance."
"Reviewed old vocab words and make cards for new vocab words; covered format of ISEE and some basic test taking skills for ISEE; will start prefixes and suffixes next time and cover easy shortcut tips for long division."
"We discussed optimization problems involving differentiable functions of several variables where a relationship between the variables allowed us to express the function to be optimized as a function of a single variable."
"We reviewed patterns, missing numbers in a number line, and counting by 3, 5, 10's. We started with concrete objects and models, moved to picture models, and finished doing them with more abstract problem solving. The student is a bright student. "
"The student and I met from 10:0511:40. I briefly discussed how he was doing in his PreCalc and Physics classes and how he had done last semester. After getting familiarized a bit with the grade breakdown, we began looking at the homework regarding log, exponential growth, and logistic growth functions to prepare for his test on Monday. We briefly discussed his progress in Physics. We are planning to meet again on Sunday."
"The student and I went over about half of the problems I'd assigned for homework. We discussed strategies for problemsolving in general and geometry in particular. We also discussed imaginary numbers, parallel line/transversal problems, weird functions, similar figures, and creating equations from equivalent perspectives. I assigned the 1st half of the next math section for homework."
"Went over basics of magnetism including relevant formulas and the right hand rule. Completed part of homework assignment with emphasis on proper calculator use and problem solving techniques for physics."
"Prepared for his derivatives test. Reviewed concepts including implicit differentiation, logarithmic differentiation, L'hospital's rule, estimating derivatives based on tabulated values, chain rule. Also went over certain differentiation formulas like derivative of a^x, log x, and trig functions. Reviewed an old quiz where he did poorly before I started tutoring him. He was able to work through the problems he had missed! Gave him some complicated examples that required multiple differentiation rules to be used simultaneously, and he was able to handle them well. Ended the session feeling very confident about his test tomorrow."
"*The student worked on timed practice test: reading comprehension, math achievement, and quantitative reasoning. *He solved a set of timed test questions and verbally checked his work to justify his answers. "
"Worked with the student on another reading test. Out of 28 questions, he got 25 correct, and he understood the issue with the three he did not get right. In addition, he did the test in significantly less time than might have been asked of him in a real testing situation. He has come a long way from our earliest sessions, and I couldn't be happier for him."
"The student and I discussed key words to look for in word problems. We also worked on multiplying numbers. She struggled with what numbers to multiply when she multiplies two digit numbers. We worked though some together and checked them. Then she did a few on her own. I left her with a list to review of words to look for in word problems so that she knows how to proceed through a problem."
