Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This evening we worked on developing an outline for the student's upcoming essay. The student informed me he made an 80 on his most recent essay, which is improvement from his previous grade which was a 70, this grade was earned before I started working with him. I am seeing progress in the student. I would say remembering to utilize higher level vocabulary and descriptive words throughout his writing are areas we will continue to focus on as well as just helping him become a more well rounded writer. His attitude was positive during the session. He work I left him with was to finish his outline prior to our next session. At this time I do not have any concerns."
"As with each week, we first went over the student's sentences using unfamiliar SAT words from the list I gave her. They were well done and demonstrated clear understanding of the definitions. We discussed finer shades of meaning and how they're commonly used also. The student then completed a 25 minute Writing section from the SAT including identifying sentence errors and improving sentences. Her abilities with identifying sentence errors are coming along very well- we discussed reasons why she missed some and tactics for approaching these types of questions."
"Today we spent more time working on outlining the practice essay that he's working on and by the end of the session, he had mostly finished outlining the body of the essay. For homework, I asked him to touch up his outline and then write the first paragraph of the essay. We'll spend a couple weeks writing the body of the essay and then I'll work with him on crafting a good introductory paragraph and a good concluding paragraph. He's making progress. We will continue to brainstorm ideas for what he should write the essay on."
