Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we started by going over the science and reading sections I gave him for extra practice from last time. He did very well on every science section except the physics section. We talked about what was bothering him on this and he said that he spent too much time trying to teach himself the physics instead of just answering the questions. We did a physics section together and I showed him how to take a step back and just look at the what the questions were specifically asking and how to answer them. We then started talking about the reading section. We decided to try just answering the questions before reading the whole passage. It made a world of difference. He only missed two questions in the entire section and was very excited about it. We then started working on the writing section, which we will continue with at our next session in two weeks. In the mean time, I asked him to do an extra English section and math section for practice."
"During this first session with the student, we talked about her expectations for the exam and some general strategies that work for the whole test. We went over how tutoring will work and I explained the homework and how sessions are structured. After our initial discussion of how the test works and how scoring is done, we jumped right in to the reading section. She tried all three of the main strategies for reading passages, and she found that the likes to both underline and annotate as she reads, having first marked the lines that are referred to by the questions. She is able to go through the passages at a good speed, and needs a more time for the prose fiction passages than the others. We completed all the passages from practice test 4 during the session. She finished them with about four minutes to spare and a predicted score of 23. She has not yet taken the diagnostic test, but she plans to complete it before our second session."
"Today, the student and I covered the college entrance exam math section. She scored a 32. Her scores are all above 30 except for science which is at 29. We will do the science section next session."
