Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a quiz on Tuesday that covered areas under a curve and center of mass. He said the quiz went well. Today we worked on homework involving center of mass."
"The student and I covered some work on adding, subtracting, and simplifying polynomials and then also worked on the rules of exponents. She was very clear on all the work with polynomials, especially as we did some of the problems. She had no problem doing the work. The exponents were a little trickier, so we did some extra problems."
"We went through her homework on simplifying rational expressions. We worked on knowing when to factor and when to expand, and recognizing the difference of squares and cubes. She grew more confident over the course of our session and could do problems on her own without prompting by the end."
"Today we covered linear programming (aka optimization). The student has a good grasp of the concepts, but needed practice applying them. Once she was able to figure out exactly what the problems were looking for, she was able to find the solutions without struggle. She also did well with optimization in the form of word problems, which tend to be even more challenging."
"The student and I went over her math test from last Friday and discussed test-taking strategies and techniques for answering word problems. We also practiced fraction to decimal conversions, flash card practice, and timed drills in preparation for her timed test on Friday. I showed her where she can find additional practice online."
"We worked on the student's homework assignments that involved working with ratios and slopes. We specifically worked on story problems and strategies for solving them because those are the type of problems he had the most questions on."
"The student and I worked on his math homework together of solving 2-step equations. I kept reinforcing to show all of his work and I am working with him to complete his assignments neater."
"The student was given a few extra days for his final, so we did a quick, last-minute review of everything he had learned in the class. I think he took the final afterward, and I am confident that he will do really well on it based on how capable he was on most of the concepts. Occasionally he would get stuck, but he understood the general concepts enough to get him through the majority of each problem."
"We covered borrowing from and adding to the tens place when performing double digit subtraction and multiplication. Once I taught him this concept, he began to flourish and his confidence increased. We were then able to master the algorithms for double digit multiplication and long division."
"We went over some homework problems that he was assigned, and reviewed rules of limits for him to remember in his calculations. The student is grasping the concepts clearly, and asks questions as needed. I have no concerns from the session."
"The student and I worked through his review for the retake and his homework for the evening. He seems to have the most problem with when to flip the inequality sign and setting up an inequality to graph. We practiced these operations with a few extra problems at the end."
"I helped the student with his vocabulary homework, and I quizzed him on the meanings and uses of words in sentences. He does very well learning new words. We finished by going over math problems as a review."
