Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I began with a quick large-digit number review. He continues to work with irregular number forms and differentiating between the millions, thousands, and hundreds places. I have asked him to regard the commas as stop signs and view the numbers between them as an independent chunk. We again reviewed tu and usted commands and learned the ir + a + infinitive formula. We finished with an oral vocabulary review of common household items, clothing, and food."
"First, I talked with the student about school, Spanish class, and learning Spanish in order to get an idea of what he finds most frustrating and most confusing. Also, in order to get an idea of how he learns and how he has been learning Spanish. We focused the lesson on building on basics, since that was what he told me he remembered best. We began with some conversations about greetings, depedidas, and introductions. Within that, we talked about vocabulary, formal v. informal you, recognizing verb conjugations, pronunciation, and using context clues. We also played out the conversations looking and not looking at the book. Finally, we reviewed all of the info and connected it to what he had done for HW (-ar verbs)."
"We discussed a novel that we are going to read together today. Reading novels and stories seems like a good way for us to go forward, and should help get the student get ready for her rigorous honors Spanish 4 course."
"We went over homework today and she did a fantastic job. Today we continued reviewing -ar verbs in the present tense. I taught him four new regular verbs today. For homework he needs to conjugate each of them in the present tense and make up a sentence using the verb."
"This evening we completed 2 lessons. The online lessons involved things to eat and drink and correct conjugation of verbs. There was also a speaking exercise for the student to do at the end. He is a great student that works well."
"We finished the last two of the student's journal entries. He still has some vocabulary to learn in the context of reading/writing Chinese. We will continue to work on his vocabulary."
