Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we reviewed third declension adjective endings, adjective and noun agreement, and roman numerals. We also practiced translation. No concerns."
"The student did not have any new material, so we continued to drill noun endings and worked on translating both from his book and another book. His first declension and second declension masculine noun endings are much improved. He is still working on understanding the -a ending for neuter nouns. I once again stressed to him the importance of making note cards for his vocab words."
"We reviewed a translation from Caesar's Gallic Wars about the culture of the Gauls. The "classroom" worked perfectly last night. I had to lead the student through the translation last night and help him with vocabulary and we discussed the history and compared Gallic and Roman cultures. He did not take any kind of assessment, but, with a little help, he was translating by sight."
"We started today's session by going over the practice work I assigned previously. The student is still working on some noun and verb endings. We went over the exercises in chapter 4 of the book. I also introduced in this chapter were adverbs, infinitives of the verb, and the imperative mood. I assigned him a lot of practice exercises to do over the weekend."
"Focused on translation, vocabulary, verb conjugations and tenses, and demonstrative pronouns. The student needs to consistently practice on these things. She should work on a worksheet I will be giving her in the next few days."
"Today, we spent about an hour working on translation, as the student needed help with vocabulary. He did well with some of the sentences, but it took us more work to break down the more complicated ones. We spent the last half hour introducing the concept of the indirect question, a grammatical construction that talks about giving orders/ making requests, and he did quite well with getting a handle on how to translate these in isolation."
