"We went over some Newtonian mechanics concepts including scalar and vector quantities and projectile motion. The student handled the material easily and will continue to do well."
"Today's session concentrated mainly on chemistry, and the student primarily had questions with regards to naming compounds and balancing equations. The math portion of her homework has become more advanced as she now has to accurately locate the correct numbers within the periodic table, create balanced equations using these figures, and correctly name the compound or acid that is resulting. She seems to have a little difficulty explaining why she knows which numbers to use suggesting that she has memorized where to look but does not know what it is that she is looking up or its relation in the concept of the chemistry behind the bond. I have tried talking her through the concept, but she seems to only concentrate on the equations and suggests that she knows the other information well enough. I asked her to spend more time concentrating on using her memorization application and flash cards to help her learn the processes and definitions in the hopes that she will gain a better foundational understanding of the concepts. She agreed that she would work on the programs that we picked for her, and that she would practice memorizing the rules because they will help her solve the problems accurately if she forgets the equations that she has memorized. She asked that we spend our next session on Sunday reviewing for algebra since we spent this entire session reviewing for chemistry."
"I introduced the synthesis and reactions of dienes. We practiced resonance structures to prepare for discussions of aromaticity."
