Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In our first session today, we started with the essay. We went over the structure and basic techniques. This is definitely the student's strong point. We then moved on to math. We went through the SAT book and reviewed the basic concepts before moving on to some example problems. She knows more than she thinks she does; she just needs to work on applying the knowledge and skills that she has. I left her with some work for next time including an essay, a math section, and some vocab. If she has time, it would be beneficial for her to do a multiple choice writing section as well."
"During this first session, the student and I discussed her goals for the ACT and some general strategies. We jumped right in to working on the reading section and practiced some strategies specific to that section. She finds it helpful to start out by noting the questions that refer to specific line numbers, then reading the text and annotating as she goes, answering those indicated questions along the way before finishing the passage and answering the remaining questions. She does not struggle to finish in the allotted time. Most of the answers she got wrong were ones where she had been in between two answer choices. We discussed reading what comes right before and right after indicated parts of the text to find the answer and analyzing the implications of each answer choice as they relate to the question posed to decide on the right answer."
"We covered the writing section and the mathematics section. We focused on sentence structures and grammatical errors in addition to working on ways to speed up his problem solving for math."
