Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the session today going over a homework assignment on Romeo and Juliet. He needed to take a short section, put it into his own words, and answer a few questions about it. I asked him a lot of questions trying to prompt him to a better understanding of what was going on in his chosen passage. I think he understands it pretty well, he just sometimes has a hard time putting things into his own words. He showed me the writing that he had done from last time and it was quite good. He has a real ability to craft sentences and use strong words. For practice, I asked him to find a reference material about great white sharks and write one paragraph about that topic. He will need to find what topic he thinks is important/interesting and make an outline of his paragraph and then write it. I'll probably spend a couple of weeks doing this so that he gets more practice at it."
"We reviewed parts of speech, then tackled run-ons, fragments, and splices. We reviewed the essay that was turned into his English teacher. He will check with teacher about the final score on the essay."
"We spent the evening outlining examples that he can use for body paragraphs in his essay on "The Age of Innocence," connected to the theme of society acting as a villain. He'll continue outlining over the weekend, and I'll return on Tuesday night to help with essay revisions."
