Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The students were excited to see me and immediately began cooperating with our Spanish session. We reviewed colors while playing games to help with memorization. In addition, we went over the ABCs, and they demonstrated impressive memory in comparison to a week ago. I always make sure to tell them that I don't expect them to memorize everything I tell them, and they seem to understand. Nonetheless, they endeavor to remember everything I teach them, and they greatly succeed for children their age."
"The student needed to prepare his portion of a group presentation. The group needed to "teach" a chapter to their class, and he was responsible for developing a fun activity using the chapter's concepts. His group was assigned a chapter dealing with health and exercise. Together, the student and I reviewed the chapter and questions and brainstormed activity ideas. The student settled on a "True or False" game where he would say a statement and students would tell him whether the statement was true or false (E.g. "True or false? Eating junk food is good for you.") He developed 10 statements."
"At 3pm, the student and I worked through 80% of Module 3 (of 4). These modules covered topics such as singular/plural possessive pronouns, Hispanic cultural celebrations (quinceanera), vocab for family members and other review activities for indefinite/definite articles. I also helped him email the instructor for clarification on an assignment. I asked that he complete the next two sections and quiz for this module before tomorrow's meeting. We will have his class completed on time - no worries there. Good job focusing despite a long day at school!"
"We studied for dialogue and prepped for Ch. 4 (we are finally ahead of the game!!) We then worked on activities from textbook to get ahead for Ch. 4."
"The students did a great job today. They immediately gave me five vocabulary words each. We then did 3 pages in their textbook finishing the 6th chapter. We only have four more chapters. The vocabulary was on office supplies. We also had a page of find-the-word activities. Afterwards, each boy read pages from their Spanish book."
"I helped the student prepare for his test tomorrow which included new vocabulary and grammar points. For vocabulary, I taught him the usefulness of kanji as a means of aiding in the memorization process. I also gave him a mental framework in which he could group the words in categories to facilitate the learning process. I provided example sentences that will be useful in remembering the meaning and structure of the sentences."
