Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I began the lesson with student 1 by reviewing her entrance exam vocab words; she has made consistently good improvement with her words so I gave her many new ones to study for next week. Afterwards, I gave her a writing practice which reviewed how to make writing outlines with a time limit. For student 2, we also started the lesson by reviewing her spelling and vocab words. She did very well, especially in her spelling, so I gave her a few more words to practice. Afterwards, I did a series of writing outline practices with her, all of which were timed. I then had her choose one of the outlines to write a full essay over; despite the stress of the time limit, she did very well and although her writing was short, it was very well done."
"The student asked for help researching the events of Watergate. I gave her a brief verbal summary, and we then found several web pages and links she can use to continue her reading. I sent her a copy of a short story and we researched it as well."
"Today we began working on the Grammar exercises assigned the previous week. We got through those things fairly quickly and he continues to improve with this. We then began working through a chapter in the Vocabulary book he'll be using this year in 8th grade. I asked him to write the story that was assigned the previous week between Wednesday and Saturday so that we could discuss it in detail when we meet next."
"We continued reviewing verb tenses. We are focusing on past, present, future, continuous past, continuous present, and continuous future for now. She is making improvements."
"Student 1 - quizzed on 5 chapters of the novel. Tested out understanding of characterization using open-ended questions in which she had to write letters from one character to another IN CHARACTER. Also used this as an informal writing assignment to review grammar, writing conventions, and vocabulary. Then did some reading. Student 2 - quizzed on Part II of novel and major discussion on Part II."
"The student worked diligently over the course of the week to complete the notes and citations for his term paper. During our time together, he formulated an introduction to his paper, which we adjusted and reworked. Additionally, one of his points did not have sufficient research so additional research was performed."
