Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I practiced finding volumes of rotational solids by the disk, washer, and shell methods today. He picked up on each individual formula quickly, but some questions that required translation between two forms or that involved sideways functions caused him some confusion. We also looked at some extra work involving interpretation of functions based on their first- and second-derivatives, tangent lines, and secant lines, which I was able to explain to him to his satisfaction."
"We reviewed optimization problems and derivatives of exponentials, and then talked about derivatives of logarithmic functions. We also worked on algebraically solving equations involving exponentials and logarithms. Since she has an exam coming up, we talked about practicing problems similar to those on the study guide provided by her professor."
"Today we reviewed application of the first and second derivative test and did practice exam problems. The student should concentrate on the vocabulary and definitions of terms rather than execution. Her execution of problems are too good!"
"The student and I did more review on drawing graphs and optimization. The actual concepts aren't too bad for him as he's able to understand the overarching problem well, and he usually understand what's being asked of him in a problem."
"We discussed Taylor series, and also reviewed some other concepts that we talked about the previous week. The student is doing well with most of this material. We also looked at a sample AP problem that he struggled with a little; I will bring in a similar problem to look at next week."
"We went over some demand elasticity problems involving first derivatives and some optimization problems involving concentrations. The student picks up the methods for solving problems quickly."
