Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on assignments for English (quiz and essay analysis), Geometry (quiz retake), Health (unit on STDs with a short paper), World Cultures (pre-reading assignment), and her academy project."
"In our first session with the student we went over organizational skills in his folders. We went over some online tools that he can use to not only help with organization, but also help with material. Since I am going over all of the subjects in only a 1.5 hour session, this allows him to get some help in areas when needed. We also spent some time with geometry and I assigned him to watch two videos on geometry. He is a good student, and with a small extra push in some areas he will pull his grades up in no time."
"The student and I had a great second session today. Her homework involved finding examples and quotes from the text and analyzing them. We went through a scanning exercise together to first make sure she was looking for the correct answers to the actual question in the text, and thus finding a relevant and strong example to answer the question with. We discussed the conflicts of the central characters in the book as a way to further dive into the themes that the questions ask the reader to point out. By the end of the session, she had a strong grasp on the themes of chapters 5 and 6, and how the characters are developing. Part of her homework involved discussing the differences in social classification between Coketown in the novel and America, so we had a discussion about that. It was a great session!"
"Kindergarten reading comprehension. The student worked on several worksheets emphasizing long i vowels and rhyming words. He practiced his handwriting and reading skills by completing word search and selecting the word exercises."
"The student and I worked on some college entrance essays. The lesson was spent organizing and outlining his answers to three college entrance essays. He is a very bright young man who had some really good answers to these essays. We completed outlining all three of the essays; the next step is to flush out his answers and fill them out to more adequately address the essay prompts."
"Today was our first session. We worked mainly on organization for future assignments by setting up "to do" and "to turn in" folders for each subject, utilizing a planner to record future assignments, and creating a binder for ELA work. We finished our session with the student finishing older Living Environment homework that he can turn in for credit tomorrow. When the task was completed, he utilized the "to turn in" folder."
