Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered limits, relating graphs of functions to their derivatives, using the chain rule, and deriving inverse trig functions. I think the student is in a good place with everything for his test!"
"Today, the student and I continued to go through his review packet in preparation for his final tomorrow. We spent the time mainly focusing on exponential and logarithmic functions, with brief reviews (as needed) on converting between exponential and radical form and applying the laws of exponents. The problems we solved involved converting from exponential to logarithmic form, applying the laws of logarithms in order to combine multiple logarithmic terms, and graphing logarithmic equations. We finished the session by solving a word problem involving an exponential equation that required converting into logarithmic form in order to solve for the desired variable."
"We covered the review material and went over chapters 1, 2, and 3 for the test. The student understands everything from this chapter. We will go over the rest of the material on Wednesday. He is much more engaged now and understanding the math very well. Overall, it was a great session."
"The student and I reviewed Unit 4 in preparation for her make-up exam. We talked about appropriate times to use inverse matrices. We also proved why a determinant of zero implies there is no inverse matrix, and we did some practice problems. To avoid small mistakes, I emphasized that the student not forget the "plugging-in" step; it is small but critical in avoiding errors in algebra problems."
"Today we focused on the types of word problems that were on the test that the student just took. The word problems mainly used substitution to solve for a system of linear equations. We used coin examples (e.g. I have 30 nickels and dimes that amount to $2.00. How many of each coin do I have?)."
"We covered propositional logic with variables and sentences. After going over all definitions we used the rest of the time doing problems. The student would get a little confused in the truth tables but in the end, he knew the answer."
