Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I spoke with the student about his upcoming final. I mainly advised him on how to prepare or the test (including what to ask his teachers in preparation for it)."
"Today we reviewed all of the student's tests from the whole semester. We discussed permutations and combinations. Good luck on tomorrow's final!"
"The student had just had a test, so we reviewed the types of problems which she had gotten wrong. Then, we worked on word problems, which continue to be difficult for her. Following that, we previewed the next three sections in her text - ratios, rates, and proportions. She was able to perform the math calculations, but will need more support to truly understand the concepts. She will receive classroom instruction this week, and we will continue to work on these concepts next week."
"We did lots of inequality word problems. The first couple we worked through together, and the rest he only needed minimal help from me, so that was awesome. Extracting math from word problems is always harder than the actual math. This was for the snowman worksheet."
"The student has a test tomorrow, and I had him solve all of the problems that dealt with coefficients and the distributive property, ultimately solving for the unknown coefficient. He successfully solved 95% or better of the given problems."
"The student and I first worked on her study guide for her science quiz on Wednesday, on the topic of the central nervous system and endocrine system. We completed her worksheet and reviewed her class notes. She did a good job identifying key terms making connections in her notes. She then showed me her past essays from the quarter. These pieces were submitted online via Google Docs. We went over her writing, and I noticed a lot of improvement over the past few months in her flow and voice. I also read her final draft of the Columbus essay we worked on a few weeks ago. Her final essay (on which she received an A) included a lot of the suggestions we discussed, which she integrated well into her paper. We spent the last portion of the session reviewing math, on the topic of scaling factors. I gave her a couple practice problems on scaling. I integrated fractions into the problem to give her practice in that area as well."
