Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on solving systems of equations using the substitution method. We examined how to start a substitution, when to apply greatest common factoring, when to apply FOIL, and how the quadratic formula is a great "safety net" if the quadratic equation looks difficult to solve via the FOIL method. The student applied herself very well, and attempted every problem independently before we discussed the solutions."
"The student and I did a review of some of the course's beginning chapters for his cumulative exam on Thursday. We covered Lagrange multipliers, critical points, and gradients. I would say the greatest area of difficulty was with variable transforms as his professor did not cover these in class. We will devote a significant amount of time on this in our next session. As always, he had a great attitude, and I enjoy having him as a client."
"We reviewed for the student's Algebra 2 final on Thursday. We looked at factoring polynomials, synthetic and long division of polynomials, graphing parabolas after determining the vertex and axis of symmetry, solving quadratic equations by factoring, square roots, and the quadratic formula, and working with "i." We covered a little more than half the test subjects. The student's attitude was excellent; she simply needs to memorize the appropriate formulas and how to apply them."
"The concepts covered were limits and finding limits, determining whether or not a limit exist at a given point, and L'Hopital's rule. The student was struggling the most with evaluating limits and determine whether the limit exists or does not exist. She was confident during the entire online session and showed a positive attitude. The strategy I used was to sketch the graph of the functions before finding the limit so that she can visualize the picture of the function being discussed."
"We covered lesson 55, 56, 57, and 58 in review of this week's in class quiz. The material covered included ratios/proportions, calculating the area of compound polygons, calculating the length of the side of a rectangle given the area and width, and division of whole numbers."
"The student is super ready for his test. He only needed a bit of review for his test and some encouragement. We covered optimization problems, graphing with limited derivative information, and certain theorems dealing with derivatives such as Mean Value Theorem. He is super ready and will do well on his test."
