Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed his storyboard outline to make sure he was on task, and I reviewed his new written pages and offered suggestions. He has an excellent attitude, and he's really enjoying writing the story. He needs to complete about 15 more pages to meet the length requirement of the work."
"We reviewed the student's rough draft literary analysis of a short story by Kate Chopin, "The Story of an Hour." Looking at her draft, we closely analyzed her three body paragraphs (regarding character development, setting, and plot). I asked her to talk me through her ideas for each paragraph, and how they connected with the Chopin story. As she talked, I jotted down notes, capturing her own words. Then I showed her what she understood about the piece but was struggling to put into writing. This seemed to be a great help to her. Then we worked with diagramming the Chopin piece and also her essay, looking at connections. This tutoring session involved deepening the student's understanding of the Chopin piece, honing the theme of her essay, and strengthening connections between her essay's theme and body paragraphs."
"We reviewed the ACT essay writing guidelines. The student wrote a practice essay. We discussed his pre-writing steps and ways to strengthen his essay and take full advantage of the 30 minute time limit."
