Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Last week, the student gave me a copy of a technical report that he is working on editing. It will eventually be part of his thesis. Prior to this session, I read about six pages of it and jotted down potential edits: everything from simple punctuation to restructuring sentences. When we met this week, we went over my feedback and discussed potential changes. Some topics that came up were: more articles ("the" refers to a specific object/instance), present perfect tense ("has been developed"), avoiding abbreviations and symbols (replacing "&" with "and"), numbering formulas and elaborating more after both figures and formulas, word choice ("significantly" instead of "pretty much"), and some punctuation (replacing "~" with "-" or the word "to"). Near the end of the session, we reviewed the overall structure of the thesis paper and talked about which parts will need to be written next (the rest of the nebulizer section). We agreed that before next week, I will read the rest of the technical report and the student will re-write several subsections that we went over today (specifically, the ones that are currently in list form)."
"This session was concerned with helping the student find a host for his project. We did this together. I showed him how to FTP files, use PHP scripts, and how to access PHPMyAdmin. We will use this environment for the remainder of our coding together."
"We continued working on the third programming assignment, implementing page tables, the frame table, and the free frame list."
