Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Retaught lessons on factoring, using the quadratic formula, and completing the square to solve quadratic equations. Introduced "bottoms up" factoring. Also worked on graphing quadratics and manipulating quadratics in standard form to vertex form. The student seemed to grasp this info much better this go-around."
"Today, the student and I checked out the couple problems he got wrong on his test and I explained the issues with them. Then we knocked out the next two homework assignments (on square, cube, and higher index roots) and started on an extra worksheet he picked up. He still needs to finish six more homework assignments by Sunday. All in all, he is crushin' it!"
"The student and I had our first session. She has a book given by the university with practice questions for the test. She said she felt fairly comfortable with basic arithmetic (working with fractions, decimals, integers), and she demonstrated the ability to solve for a single variable, so we skipped over the algebra section and jumped right in. We went over division, multiplication, addition, subtraction and factoring of polynomials, as well as how to simplify radical expressions and work with exponents. She picked everything up very quickly, so I felt like we were okay to cover a lot of material. I asked her to go through the problems again on her own, so that we could address any questions she has next session."
"The student and I covered factoring polynomials, including LCM and GCF. We also learned how to simplify algebraic equations that involve fractions and powers."
"We looked at the student's old quiz and made corrections. We spent most of the time working on direct and inverse relations, as this was going to be on her test tomorrow. She did very well on her last quiz, so hopefully this translates onto the test. We also worked on several word problems using direct and inverse relations as well."
"We went over multiplying and dividing polynomials and binomials once again. We did all the student's review, which for the most part, she did not have a problem with. I gave her a couple of hints to make the problems a little shorter. She has it down."
