Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started off on a very positive note as the student had scored well on the English practice section she'd done as homework. We continued with our detailed English review, including tips and strategies, and started on our Math review."
"Introduced a main idea strategy for Reading. Continued working on the graphs passages for Science. Practiced the English section and discussed punctuation rules."
"Tonight the student and I started by discussing what it takes to complete and take the ACT/SAT's overall. I told him that I had just read a book called "Getting a Perfect on the ACT/SAT's," and that the author talked about how it takes practice and duration to do well on these tests. I had him complete the first passage in the Practice Test 4 - English section. We discussed how answers (a/f) are always no change, the use of commas, past/present/future, dash/semicolon/colon, use of omit/delete and how there are 5 passages with 15 questions each. He asked some great questions that had to do with these topics, which allowed us to go a little deeper. He also said that he enjoys writing papers and then looking for ways to change them to sound and look better. I was still timing him on the first passage just to see how he would do if he was being timed. He finished the first passage in 11 minutes and 45 seconds. He did really well on the first passage scoring 11 correct answers and 4 incorrect answers. The questions that gave him difficulty were: past/present/future tense, words or phrases to be removed, and two rhetorical questions. We will continue to work on these issues in future sessions. He was very excited about how well he did and wanted to continue with the English section."
