"We focused mainly on the reading and writing sections last week, so this session we caught up on a few math lessons. The student progressed quickly as we reviewed patternspotting problems in algebra and began basic geometry (complementary and supplementary angles). Next week we will continue geometry and take another look at the reading, writing and essay sections."
"The student did much better on his math section and in his approach to math problems this session. His pace was still too slow to finish in time for the sections, but getting 13/16 in a 20 question section is better than getting 11/19 so he will get more points with this method, especially if he can keep spending time improving for this test and after if he chooses to do another test. There a few issues with the reading section, but the writing is still at a good level. We are going to meet next Friday before the test, so I assigned a bunch of sections so he can work out his questions and focus on improving the things he knows he is weak on."
"The student and I met for the first time today and initially went over what his test preparation so far has looked like. He is very strong with math and in general does not struggle too much with time management. He thinks his weakest area is critical reading. We went over how to structure the essay and I asked him to finish the essay at home. We also went through one section of each topic in a practice test. He is very relaxed and receptive to strategies and new ideas. I asked the student to finish the test at home before our next meeting and write an essay. Overall great session!"
"The student has greatly improved in mathematics from when we started, and her test score will reflect this. We worked with basic writing rules and revisited the writing section. She's done a lot of great work since we started!"
"For this lesson, the student and I worked through questions in each of the 3 section. She continues to do well in the reading comprehension but definitely struggles with the grammar, which we spent some time reviewing. For the math, she also continues to improve and we reviewed strategies and approaches. She is taking her first shot at the test next Saturday."
"We covered algebraic functions and the writing prompts. The student primarily struggled with interpreting complexstep algebraic functions and with writing logic (if, then). The student was confident and genuinely interested in improving. For Tuesday, the student is to complete at least one Math, Writing and Reading section from Practice Test #1 up to all sections, including the Writing prompt."
"The student and I worked to make one final push before he takes the test next weekend. We began by looking at an essay that he wrote over the week. We fine tuned the essay to make it as close to perfect as possible. We focused on explaining the logic behind the thesis thoroughly. We then reviewed a few Reading Comprehension passages and Identifying Sentence Error Question in order to build his confidence."
"Today, I had the student complete timed practice sections in critical reading and math. We reviewed the questions, and I had her review all the vocabulary she learned during all the previous sessions."
"Today we finished up the math practice test from last session. The student's algebra and arithmetic skills are very good. He was almost always able to get the answer. The more he practices, the more familiar the language of the Math section will become."
"We covered the general format of the test, including what types of questions would be covered and the general breakdown of question types. After that, we started to go over practice problems, namely related to the math section of the test, specifically various geometry problems."
"In today's session we worked through mainly the math and reading sections. In reading we focused on strategies on how to maximize the number of correct answers. She will focus on the first couple of fill in the blank questions and do the questions that follow the short passages. For one of the short passages she was able to get all of the questions correct; the other she got all of the questions incorrect. We discussed the difference in the two passages, and she stated that it was because she was able to focus better in one of the passages. As the session went on and we practiced longer passages, She was doing really well in answering the questions. She was able to get 5 out of the 6 questions following the passage correctly. So we determined that how well she does on reading is definitely about focus."
"I gave the student the option of what we'd start with, and he chose writing. I gave him some strategies to think about and let him try writing an essay for 25 minutes. He struggled and his essay wasn't finished in time, so we talked about ways that he could write more quickly. After that, we worked on some really challenging reading passages. He struggled with one of them, but did really well on the one that I thought was going to be much harder."
