Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With Students A and B, I did some quick tests to gauge where they are in their English studies, then went over basic sentence structure with nouns and verbs. I helped Student C get started with her science fair project and edited an essay she had written about the process of creative writing. We are meeting again at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20th."
"The session covered writing a multi paragraph response to several informational texts. The prompt asked the student to take a stance for or against and support the argument with evidence from the text. We discussed pulling important information from the informational text. I included some strategies for active reading and paragraph/written response organization."
"We did the test and the student did extremely well. We then began to discuss Russian folktales and superstitions, and then turned to Nabokov. We read more of the story together. He was able to accurately predict what may happen in the story. We explored the idea of untold pieces of the story which we produce. He said he hadn't started working on his interpretation of the lines from "If." His homework is to get going on that essay, memorize his new words, and look up more Russian folk practices."
