Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was comfortable with most the material she had been working on but had a worksheet covering word problems involving quadratics. We worked on the worksheet together and I tried to present a careful methodology where you explicitly define each of your variables and then use systems of equations to substitute and then solve for your unknowns. I think this makes it more clear what each part of your quadratic represents. She always grabs on quickly and we were quickly able to finish the sheet."
"I met the student and his family for the first time, and we covered arithmetic with complex numbers (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). The student left the session with a high level of confidence in the material. The problems were much easier than he originally perceived them to be."
"I began working with the first student on some SAT practice. I discussed strategies with her (such as just plugging in the answers and how the scoring works) as well as advising her to take the SAT multiple times because some schools will take your super score. We did some practice math problems, and she flew through the first one with ease. She is not worried about the reading/writing section. I then worked with the second student on her geometry homework, which were proofs for congruent triangles. They were all only 3 steps (given, something proving congruency, then SSS/SAS). She started to get the hang of it."
"The student has a geometry test tomorrow so we went over her review sheets as well as practice problem packet. She is currently covering lines, segments, rays, angles and how to calculate them. We also worked on physics and went over some velocity, speed and acceleration problems as well as graphs and looking at speed and displacement using graphs."
"We covered factoring, word problems, imaginary numbers, and quadratic formula. He has no issues with comprehending the material."
"We covered the distance formula and the midpoint formula. There were no grades to note progress. The student seemed to have a good understanding of most of the material. I felt there was no need to give her any extra practice at this point. The session went well."
"The student and I worked on a h/w sheet dealing with hypothesis and conclusions. We then did some review/exercises on addition of angles. We also went through a 3 sentence Spanish assignment dealing with what one has to do to board an airplane."
"Today was my first session with the student back in school and it went very well. His classes are just working on reviews and he isn't having any troubles so we moved on and worked on identity problems. There are no struggles as of yet. I left him with reworking the identities that he had already solved so that it would help him see the patterns."
"We covered addition and subtraction properties of equality, truth tables, and 2-column proofs. The student felt good about the session. She feels more prepared for her test."
"The student and I discussed and went over problems with proofs today. Next, we worked on the equality postulates, the congruent supplementary/complementary theorems, and vertical/linear angle theorems. Her homework will be a worksheet on opposite rays, linear angles, and vertical angles."
"Went over complements/supplements and proofs. I instructed him to put his mental process on paper which helped him make the proper conclusions needed."
"Today was the first tutoring session with her. We discussed what she is currently learning in school. We worked on graphing shapes when given specific (x, y) points and strategies to find the area. We reviewed y = mx+b formula and different ways this is applied in problems."
