Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Continued to work w the student on factoring, use of the quadratic formula, and introduced completing the square to solve quadratic equations. Due to state assessment testing he has had no regular classroom lessons or homework."
"The student worked on reviewing for tomorrow's test. The topics included: identifying quadratics, determining vertex, maximum, minimums, symmetry, direction, graphing, solving using factoring, square roots, completing the square, and the quadratic formula."
"The student and I went over the beginning of her 18 page study guide for the test next Wednesday. We got through the first 3 pages with relative ease. She is getting very quick with her factoring and generally seems to grasp the concepts well. We are scheduled to work together two more times before the test, which I think will be very helpful. I have also asked her to attempt any problems on the rest of the study guide that she thinks she can do on her own and circle the ones she needs help with."
"During this session, we went over solving inequalities and solving system of equations via elimination and substitution. The student had questions setting up problems and handling and/or inequalities. We managed to fix those errors. Overall, this session went well."
"Yesterday I helped the student work on a worksheet that focused on simplifying exponential terms and factors. I helped her with the first few problems and then let her complete the rest of the work on her own. I taught her a new method to solve fractions, which proved to be effective. By the end of the hour, she was solving the problems and simplifying fractions with very little struggle at all."
"The student and I covered x and y-intercepts, which are new topics he is learning in class. X-intercepts are a logical extension of y-intercepts. He is already very familiar with y-intercepts, so it has been smooth sailing. His attitude toward the material is great as usual. His scores on assignments seem to be getting much better. As usual, I left him with instructions to keep doing problems on his own in order to gain familiarity."
