Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was her and my first session. I wanted to spend the session figuring out what her strengths and weaknesses are. She does very well on the writing section -- her approach to grammar is very methodical and serves her very well. We did not spend much time on reading (because she is spending so much time doing summer reading for school), but she seems to do well on the math section. Her homework is to do the remainder of the test we were working on without timing herself."
"She is feeling most confident about Reading, so we spent our last session before this weekend's test going over English, Math, and Science. She completed portions of a practice test in these subjects. She would like to score a 30 to increase her chances of earning a scholarship."
"We went over vocabulary words that the student had studied today, and came up with mnemonics for the ones that she was having trouble with. We did some critical reading exercises, not timing them, but just making sure to work through each problem carefully. She seems to be finding these questions a lot easier than she once was, and is getting the answers right more often. Finally, we looked at some common types of grammar mistakes that are tested on the writing section of the exam."
"I worked with the student to practice Reading, Math, and some verbal SAT sections. She shows great promise by asking the definitions of words she is unsure of and writing them down. I assigned some homework, and we will continue to meet every other week for now, as she is taking the exam in the Spring."
"We went over the reading, English and writing sections and did practice problems for the English and reading tests. The student did very well on everything and his timing on the practice sections we did was very good."
"Today we did a review on the incorrect answers on Practice test II. We graded Practice test III and determined a score of 650. We then reviewed experimental set ups, molar gas volumes, and Ksp. I handed out homework concerning Net Ionic Equations."
"For this lesson, I had the student take full length practice sections in Reading, English, and Science. For Reading, she got a score of 32. For English a score of 31. For Science, a score of 30. We'll work on math and the essay for next lesson (but overall, very good performance)."
"The student had yet another great session today. He worked through two reading sections and an English session with about 85% accuracy. He also worked through a combined math section, and a multiple choice math section on which he only missed the last 2 problems."
"This was my last session with the student before his test. We went over his Reading Diagnostic Test today. I helped him work his way through breaking down each passage paragraph by paragraph and then breaking that down into what was most useful. After going through the practice material, we had 15 minutes left in the session, so I gave him my last pointers for taking the test and answered the questions he still had."
"The student and I were able to fix our audio issues from the last session. We did some practice tests that were available online and did one grammar section, one math section, and part of a vocab flashcard section together. She seemed to be able to answer most the questions in all sections, but asked for help with understanding a few. We plan to go through more of the practice tests resources in our future tutoring sessions."
"Today we focused on the English section of the ACT, reviewing grammar and mechanics, strategy, and practice test problems. This is the area of the test that needs to most improvement for the student. Consistent practice and a review of the various elements of the English language will make him really great at this."
"We did a science and math test during this session. Those were her two sections she asked for help on. On her science test, she increased her previous score by two points!"
