Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed SAT writing and ACT reading sections. Discussed a few high-level math problems. Continued discussing the essay, including a timed practice run of one full essay from start to finish."
"During this session, the student and I went over his homework from last week. He was very successful with the math grid-in section, only missing three questions. He is doing very well in drawing diagrams to help with his thinking. In general, we need to keep working on recognizing useful shapes, especially special triangles. For extra practice, I left him an entire timed math section. Then, we went over his critical reading homework. At this point, critical reading is where we need to focus the most. He actually skipped several questions accidentally, and although he did a good job using context, he did occasionally get overwhelmed with the information. In our coming sessions, we will work on focus and attention to detail. For the remainder of the session, we worked on writing, sentence improvement, and error identification specific to prepositions. We went over many examples of common prepositional errors and he took notes. We also discussed general strategies for sentence improvement, especially when choosing between passive and active voice. For homework, I asked him to write a timed essay."
"We practiced an SAT Math section, then went over the answers. We then did vocabulary flashcards. We also reviewed test taking strategies."
