Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked very hard on covering the advanced concepts of trigonometry and, in particular, graphing sin and cos functions. We made a lot of progress in covering the necessary concepts and did a few practice problems. I'm hoping to work more with her soon - maybe on Sunday - to go over it in more detail and build her understanding up a bit more. There is a major transition of thinking when applying the principle of "function transformation" to periodic functions, instead of the traditional parents. Still, by the end of the session, that transition was starting to take place."
"The student and I practiced addition with three-digit numbers. We used chips marked with 1, 10, and 100 to help with carrying. We completed a homework worksheet that we had to find the missing number that completed the addition sentence."
"Topic: Binomial distribution and probability. I will send a page of notes and also a practice problem for her to do on her own tomorrow."
"The student and I worked on finding asymptotes, domain, range, and intercepts of functions. We also worked on dividing, adding, and multiplying functions. He said he felt very confident after our session. We will meet again Thursday to prep for a quiz he has on Friday."
"We continued with finding inverses of 3X3 matrices before moving into using matrix inverses to solve systems of equations. The student mastered inverses quickly, so we started a chapter test that will be finished next time along with the intro of conic sections."
"We worked on trig functions. The student is picking up the material quickly but stills needs help when he gets stuck. He is good at procedures, however he needs to work on his critical thinking. I spoke with his dad. We discussed the student's strengths and weakness. We also talked about a plan to help the student succeed."
