Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Great session. We learned conversation terms, specifically greetings and asking for what kind of food you like to eat. We also learned times of day, months, year, and birthdays."
"First we reviewed some things from last week (verbs, nouns, and greetings). This session we spoke much less English and really practiced asking questions to each other to really understand all aspects of the sentence and syntax. The student showed up with great enthusiasm and it was clear that she had reviewed the material during the week. We talked about flashcards and being that she learns best by reading/seeing things, I think these would be very helpful. She had also purchased a book (which I also own) so we now can work through it together which will be immensely beneficial and can also help her during the week. I think she is doing great!"
"We covered conversational Spanish. We also went over grammar exercises, usage and pronunciation. However, it was quite apparent that the student has a proclivity for languages. What he does know he applies very well."
"Today was our first lesson in Portuguese. We started with introductions about ourselves in Portuguese and spoke about the student's desired goals. Specifically, we talked about the past tense: preterite and imperfect. I listed examples of scenarios of when to use either the preterite or the imperfect, and we discussed specific sentences utilizing these tenses. I need to organize the session notes and upload a photo of the homework to send to her. Overall she has a really positive attitude toward learning and is eager to progress quickly. At the end of the class, we talked about how charts and different ways to apply grammatical concepts would be most useful for her."
"I continued assistance with the student in the preparation of her paper assignment for her class; namely, the paper relating her workshop and performance attendance to some aspect of language as discussed in her class. This session was mainly devoted to helping the student brainstorm specific ideas for her paper with as much as specific guidance as the tutor could provide. This consisted of explanations of some linguistic concepts; as well as supplying examples to illustrate these concepts which possibly could be applied to her assignment."
"The session went well. We worked on some translation. I gave her example and suggestions on how to recognize the syntax of the paragraph and other tips that will help her do well on her AP exam this coming Friday."
