Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued translating lines from Book 1 of the Aeneid. The student should focus on recognizing indirect statements, reviewing cases/ declension endings, and vocabulary, in addition to the notes I gave him during the session. In general, he should make sure to re-translate (several times) whatever we cover in sessions and whatever he reviews in class."
"We reviewed theta criterion and arguments. We reviewed the student's homework question for question. She performed well on her midterm (86). She will email the first part of her homework that we did not review but she felt confident in."
"The lesson went very well. We worked on a translation from "De Bello Gallico" that the student had. Since we had some time left, we continued with the translation she is going to do next."
"The student had previously provided me with a copy of her latest assignment from her linguistics course, the first from the course's unit on phonology, and the assignment covered some basic topics in phonology like minimal pairs, phonetic features, phonemes and allophones, and phonological rules. The student and I worked through each problem on the assignment, using examples from the homework and other examples and materials, including a chart of IPA symbols, to clarify and reinforce the concepts illustrated on the assignment. She seemed to make good progress during the lesson, and seems to be well equipped for success in the course."
"Today the student and I reviewed the constitutional amendments for the upcoming AP test. I numbered all the amendments and made him fill them out. Once he was done we went over the ones he missed. I recommended that he draw a little symbol or cartoon for the ones he missed as a fun way to remember them. Next we moved on to Spanish. We reviewed our lesson on Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns from last week. Then we went over his homework as practice."
"The concepts covered on Friday's session included verb tenses and focusing primarily on reading comprehension. The student read two passages in Spanish and translated it word for word in English as well as answering reading comprehension questions. The student was able to understand both passages well and answer each question correctly."
