Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student worked on his Science, Social Studies, English and Spanish homework. He has a social studies and science quiz coming up, so I quizzed him about those subjects. I also had him practice equations and types of angles for his math skills."
"Continued reviewing notes from class, in this case a review of the implications of first and second derivative tests at any given point on the graph of f(x). I created another problem for her to review and solve in addition to providing her with additional study materials and explaining her teacher's steps on the classwork and notes."
"Today we covered solving rational equations involving multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Student was practicing with choosing the correct lowest common denominator. He was very positive and engaged with the material and trying to understand it. I showed a few ways to picture the lcd and what needs to be combined to find it correctly. I did leave him extra work, I asked him if without graphing can he find an oblique asymptote. I did see a score of 60% on one assignment but he was able to reattempt it, focus on the issues that he had, and received a new score of 100%."
"We went over worksheets that involved multiple rectangles and finding the areas of certain parts of them using multiplication and then addition/subtraction. I asked him for the answer to each multiplication problem when we encountered them and he seemed to get them slightly faster than previous weeks. I recommended practicing further with the flash cards from before."
"The student and I went through her homework on logarithms. She didn't have her log rules memorized, but we practiced with them and she got much better at determining which rule to use to solve problems. My second student and I went through her homework on integrating and describing a function from a graph of its derivative. She needs to practice, slow down and think through all the steps when she looks at graphs, but other than that, she's doing very well. She seems to be improving with help."
"The student requested assistance solving basic algebra problems involving two variables. We started by working on the concepts of ratio and percentage. She understood the concepts very well and adapted quickly, and was able to apply these new knowledge. The algebra portion was a bit more challenging for the student and I had to start from a relatively basic level and help with her math problem solving skills. By the end of the session, she showed great improvement and was able to solve basic algebra problems without my help."
