Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student review his homework in science, English, social science and math. He has a math test tomorrow, so I made out a quiz for him. He got a couple wrong, and I had him redo the problems."
"Student and I solved for the unknown where it involved quadratic equations and fractions. There was factoring and any restrictions that were present had to be stated as well. He was able to do this by himself and I followed along to make sure there weren't any mistakes. He seems confident in this area. There were only a few times that I had to step in to help. Overall, I thought the session went well and I think he is retaining the information."
"Student was very happy to show me his 90% on his last exam with his only mistakes being definitions. It was a great sign showing student's conceptual understanding and good motivation for math tests in the future! We proceeded to review how to calculate taxes/tips and how to find the grand total of purchases. We also went over interest rates, which he had a better understanding of why interest rates exist through role play and real life examples."
"We reviewed confidence intervals and its uses in the statistical world. The concepts we covered ranged from Margin of Error to finding sample means/proportions. The student understands the concepts, but has a difficult time focusing on reading the question. As a result, I gave her some advice on how to concentrate during tests and how crucial it is in order to pass her exams. I had her finish the rest of the homework problems and we reviewed her answers, and how she arrived at those."
"We started working on the idea of energy. We worked on potential and kinetic energy individually. We started trying to put the ideas together to form the conservation of energy. The student began the session a little confused, but after review, she seemed to catch on. We will need to work on a strategy for keeping the idea straight and for ensuring that she uses the right equations with the right situation."
"As the student and I got acquainted, we examined his recent material on sequences and integer arithmetic. He said my explanations of how to work with negative numbers cleared up some confusion for him. We also reviewed some past concepts such as combining like terms and dividing fractions."
